Neighbourhood Watch

Neighbourhood watch is one of the biggest and most successful crime prevention initiatives ever; it's all about getting together with your neighbours to take action to cut local crime. Through forming an active partnership with the local police Neighbourhood Watch can effectively do the following:

. Cut crime and the opportunities for crime
. Help and reassure those who live in fear of crime
. Encourage neighbourliness and closer communities.

The NW scheme works in Preston in the following way: a committee has been set up consisting of 11 members, who are all residents of the village and prepared to give up their valuable time to keep everyone informed of local incidents that could impact on our village. The names/telephone numbers of the committee are as follows:

Ita Leaver Butchers Lane (Upper), Charlton Road (Lower), Templars Lane 453250
Tim Justham Chequers Lane (Lower) 437908
Pat Loustau Butchers Lane (up to The Willows) 459563
Jane Cole Church Lane 454033
Sarah Gill The Green 451975
Jo Blyth Back Lane 432681
Chris Marley Princess Helena College 443870
Brenda Reintjes Crunnells Green/School Lane 442422
Ken Murray - Ladygrove, Poynders End and Hitchwood Cottages 456217

Information regarding local crime is sent from Herts Police using the Ring Master system, which sends messages via e-mail or telephone to the members of the NW committee who then relay that information on to everyone in their designated area.

The Neighbourhood Watch committee members will endeavour to pass on to you information that is received in the village from the police about relevant crime incidents in this and neighbouring villages, as well as reports of any suspicious behaviour, or activities observed elsewhere in the village and reported into the system.

Please remember that the Police would like to hear of any crime or attempted crime incidents affecting your property, any suspicious activity you may have noticed and any incidents of hooliganism or damage to property that come to your notice. The hope is that, with such a two-way flow of information within the village, we will all be able to take extra care and exercise greater vigilance.

The Police incident numbers are as follows: . In the event of an emergency or if you witness a crime actually taking place call 999. . For all non-emergencies including fly-tipping please call 0845 33 00 222 . PC Matt Jenkins is our Ward Constable and PCSO Nikki Williams is our Community     Support Officer. They are responsible for dealing with local community issues in Preston and      can be contacted on 01438 757604

.
These numbers also appear every month in the parish newsletter. The mobile police station visits Preston every 2nd and 4th Wednesday in the month between 12.00 and 1.00 pm on the Green.

We are very fortunate that at the moment Preston has a low crime rate when compared to neighbouring villages - lets make every effort as a community to keep it that way. If you would like to discuss Neighbourhood Watch further or would like a crime prevention pack please contact Ita Leaver on 453250
