Preston Primary SchoolPreston has a successful mixed infant and junior school for children aged between 4 to 11 years old.The schools website has more detailed information on the school. Pupils are drawn from the local village but, given its popularity, the School also attracts children from neighbouring villages as well as the local towns of Hitchin and Luton . In its 2003 report, www.ofsted.gov.uk/reports/117/117403.pdf , Ofsted describes the School as “a very effective school with many very good features”, with standards in English, Maths and Science well above average. The School is fortunate to receive sponsorship for an Accelerated Maths scheme which uses computerised training to reinforce and extend children's learning. Learning is also enhanced through many extra-curricular activities organised with the support of the Preston School Association. Specialist teaching is offered in French, Music and Science (up to Key Stage 2) and extra curricular clubs include Sports (‘Rising Stars'), Art and Rainbows. The School motto is “ Where Achievement is Celebrated ”. 1. Quiet, 2. Sunlight (including a solar fountain and sundial), 3. Force & Motion, 4. Flora & Fauna, 5. Mechanical, 6. Texture & Sensory, 7. Weather (which incorporates a computerised weather station), and 8. Sound. The School's next major project is the building of a new dedicated library extension (due to be completed in 2005) as well as further investment in ITC resources.
