Preston Village of the Year

The Preston Trust is delighted to announce that Preston has won the Hertfordshire Small Village of the Year award for 2005.This competition,organised by the CPRE - The Hertfordshire Society,and sponsored by Calor, is keenly contested and attracts many entries from all over Hertfordshire.We are delighted to have won this prestigious award,and would like to thank all those in the village who contributed to our winning presentation. The trophy was collected by Ali Morecroft and Richard Gill on behalf of the village,at a glittering awards ceremony at the Van Hage Garden Centre in Great Amwell last Thursday,30th June 2005. This award has attracted media interest from around the county,all keen to know more about our village and community.

VILLAGES RECEIVE AWARDS

Three villages have been honoured at the 2005 Hertfordshire Village of the Year awards,held on Thursday,that rewards work in our smaller communities. Ickleford,near Letchworth,received the environmental award;Preston,near Hitchin,was awarded with the small village award and Barkway,near Royston,was commended for work in building community life. Richard Gill,Chairman of the Preston Trust,said "We are absolutely delighted by this award,it is the result of a very strong effort from a very close-knit community.We have done our best to improve upon what we have and we pride ourselves in involving all the community in our events.There are many distinguished small villages in Hertfordshire and in such strong company we are very pleased to come out on top."

The winning trophy is currently on display in the Red lion for general viewing.
